Master Excel Skills for Finance and Accounting
We are a community of finance and accounting professionals in and around San Francisco who want to learn and share advanced Excel spreadsheet techniques used specifically for finance and accounting.
We promote Excel mastery in two ways:
- Saturday Training Sessions - We offer 4-hour sessions about one Saturday a month each covering its own specific advanced Excel skill area, such as pivot tables, macros, or chart building. Sessions are held in downtown San Francisco or downtown Oakland and use Excel versions 2003 and 2007. Sessions are lead by ExcelInAccounting member-volunteers, which means we can keep the attendance fees to only $60, or $40 for IMA members. Group discounts are available.
- Yahoo! Group discussions - EIA members and past session attendees use this online group to stay in touch and discuss advanced Excel techniques. Things like job postings, tips and tricks, and reminders of future events are also posted. Join the Yahoo! Group.
Affiliated with the Institute of Management Accountants
The EIA community draws its members mainly from the local chapters of the Institute of Management Accountants, and is sponsored by the San Francisco IMA chapter and the Oakland/East Bay IMA chapter. The Institute of Management Accountants is the leading professional organization devoted exclusively to management accounting and financial management members. The IMA provides members with personal and professional development opportunities through education, association with business professionals and certification in management accounting skills.
Our Beginnings
In 2006, The SFIMA started offering Excel sessions to about 20 people each quarter. Later in 2008, we joined with IMA chapters in Palo Alto and Silicon Valley to form Excel Masters, whose sessions drew up to 100 attendees. Finally the ExcelInAccounting group was born in 2009, hosting sessions in only San Francisco and Oakland.
